Abcrc (Alberta beverage container recycling corporation).

The Abcrc’s “love to recycle” program strives to match collectors with producers, and last week Abcrc were in town to make a video. We were informed that filming took part at Pinegrove School, Westhaven School, Beerland Bottle Depot and Galloway Station Museum.

“The EDRS started a program last fall in that two high school students that are employed by the EDRS, visit four schools in town Dakin, Pine Grove, Parkland and Westhaven every couple of weeks and pickup their refundable containers, drop them off at the bottle depot,” said EDRS’ Anne Auriat. The students return to the bottle depot at a later date and distribute the money to the schools.

“You can visit the Abcrc web site (http://www.abcrc.com/) and view the “love to recycle” site and see some of the case studies that have been highlighted,” she said. “We are proud to say that the Abcrc hired a production company to interview Russ Keating of Pine Grove Middle School of Ms. Janet Wilkinson, Westhaven School, and myself for EDRS,” said Auriat.

Alexis MacKenzie vice president of marketing for Abcrc said that they were looking for a rural match for a pick up service and the work that EDRS is doing with the schools was a perfect fit. “We call it a success story,” said MacKenzie.

When the video is finished it, along with the written case study will be posted Love to Recycle.ca . We were told that the camera crew filmed students at each of the schools drinking from refundable containers, depositing in recycling containers and also the two recycling depots staff, Janai Redman and Katie Harrison picking up the bags of containers and then taking them to the bottle depot. The video concludes with Keating and Auriat reading the prepared script.

“I think this will be a very interesting experience for all of us involved and it is always great to show the unique partnerships that we have developed that is uniquely Edson an area based,” said Auriat.
