From the years 2010 to 2012, the municipalities of Jasper, Hinton, Edson and Yellowhead County all had solid waste management strategies and implementation work plans developed. One of the main recommendations included in each of these plans was that the municipalities should consider broadening the mandate of the West Yellowhead Regional Waste Management Authority (WYRWA) to provide a regional approach to waste reduction and diversion. This past December, the Authority took another big step forward by hiring a new Regional Waste Reduction Coordinator. The coordinator is currently assisting the Authority in developing a 5 year plan.
